INDIGO DYEING WORKSHOP - Sunday, May 20th 12PM-3PM
Learn the fundamentals of this historic pattern making process in this 3 hr workshop led by textile expert, Catherine McKinley, author of Indigo: In Search of the Color that Seduced the World, the story of a journey along the indigo trade routes in 11 West African countries.
The workshop will begin with a discussion of some of the social and metaphysical uses and meanings of the cloth and a sharing of vintage African cloths. You will dye natural fiber goods in a plant derived indigo vat and learn to create and maintain an indigo vat. We will concentrate on folded, tied and clamped resist. All dyestuff materials will be provided and you will leave with a finished scarf or sarong.
